【Lendlt New York Summit Tour 2】 Calvin Choi: Asia's fintech industry has huge room for development, and AMTD will further build a bridge for the interconnection between the international fintech industry and the Asian market
Recently, the world's largest, highest-level and most influential fintech summit, Lendlt, was grandly held in New York. Nearly 5,000 fintech industry leaders, regulators and technical experts from around the world attended the summit. As a global strategic partner of Lendlt and a co-sponsor of the Fintech Joint Office, Calvin Choi, Chairman and President of AMTD Group and Co-Chairman of AMTD-Lendlt Global Joint Office, was invited to deliver a keynote speech at the roundtable meeting of the summit forum, and had dialogues and exchanges with guests on investment and development in the global fintech field.

As one of the most popular roundtables at this summit, and also the most critical roundtable on the theme of connecting the fintech industry with the capital market, "The Latest Themes in Fintech Venture Capital" attracted many fintech entrepreneurs, industry leaders and investment institution representatives. The roundtable was hosted by Jason Jones, co-founder and president of the Lundy Fintech Summit. Guests participating in the dialogue included Calvin Choi, Chairman and President of AMTD Group, Maria Gotsch, President of Partnership Fund for New York City, a direct investment platform of the New York City government, Rana Yared, Managing Director of Principal Strategic Investments (PSI), Geoff Beard, Managing Director of Colchis Capital, one of the largest online loan investors in the United States, and Sheel Mohnot, Partner of 500 Startups, a leading venture capital fund and incubator in the United States. The forum guests exchanged views on the innovation and development of global fintech and investment themes, and discussed hot issues of general concern to the industry. This is also the first time that Jason Jones and Calvin Choi appear on the same stage as co-chairs of the AMTD-Landi Global Joint Office.

As the only representative of an Asian institution, Calvin Choi pointed out that the market space for the development of financial technology in Asia is huge and has unlimited potential. China and Southeast Asia have become global investment hotspots with their huge population, high economic growth rate and diversified development forms, which has also laid a good foundation for the development of the financial technology industry. Many institutions including Citi, KPMG, McKinsey and others have published research reports and statistical data, mentioning that in 2016, China's Fintech market began to replace Western countries as the most concerned region for global Fintech investors. For example, Citi's report shows that Asia has replaced North America as the first investment center for Fintech and has become the most favored Fintech innovation region for venture capital. Citi estimates that China's FinTech venture capital in 2016 will increase by at least double compared with 2015. Calvin Choi pointed out that the future trend of industry development is that Asian capital will be more closely connected with global technology companies, and that Asian technology companies represented by China will "go overseas" and become internationalized. Take the successful IPO of Meitu (1357.HK) as an example. As a leading mobile Internet company in China, Meitu has created a series of software and hardware products around "beauty", including Meitu Xiuxiu, Beauty Camera, Meitu Mobile, Meipai, Beauty Camera, and Chao Zipai, and has established strong brand awareness and user loyalty. The number of its global users has exceeded 1 billion, not only in China, but also covering many overseas users. The success of Meitu's IPO in Hong Kong will lead more outstanding Asian technology companies to the international capital market. In the future, more and more technology companies originated in China and Southeast Asia will gradually go global. At the same time, more "North American models" will be transplanted to the East to promote the innovative development of Asian technology. It can be expected that the Asian technology industry will gradually move towards market leadership in the future.
